PRESS RELEASE: Chris Gallt wins historic Jack Pine Enduro

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 23, 2007 (SALINE, MI) Heimjoint Racing team rider Chris Gallt returned from injury and captured the historic 82nd Jack Pine Enduro by taking the overall win in commanding fashion. The KTM-mounted rider bested the 174 other riders in attendance to capture the famed "Cowbell" trophy, and will have his name etched beside the likes of Mike Lafferty, Jeff Fredette, Steve Hatch, Randy Hawkins, Terry Cunningham, Mike Melton, and John Penton.

This historic event began in 1923 and has only missed one or two iterations over the years due to global conflict. Initially a two day affair, the race began in Lansing, MI and covered up to 700 miles of Michigan's back roads, trails, rivers and infamous sand. Over the years, the event was shortened and since 1980, the event has become a one day classic, still encompassing the best that the Michigan woods and Lansing Motorcycle club can throw at the riders.

In keeping with tradition, the 2007 version of the race was no less difficult. The 82 miles of primarily virgin trail was praised by all in attendance, and Chris owned the day by posting a score of 21 to second place finisher Leonard Keen's 26. "It still hasn't sunk in. I think I need to go to another race to see if it was just luck or if I am really going faster than normal" commented the smiling Gallt.

The next event for Chris, Stephen Edmondson, and Jordan Mapes is the AMA FMF National Enduro in Harrison, MI on August 5, 2007.

Chris Gallt wins Jack Pine Overall

Little did I know waking up at 5 am to make the two hour hike to Moorestown, that today would be the day I earned my first ever Grand Champion title. I haven’t raced in about two months, being forced to sit out do to an injury and bike problems. So going into this event my goal was to finish strong and just have fun. Once we hit the first section of freshly marked trail, it was on, I was grinning ear to ear. Everything seemed to flow like never before. My bike ran great and I couldn’t seem to even get winded. The day went by fast and from the people I talked to during the race it seemed that I was riding quite well compared to the top AA riders. At the end of the race I was feeling quite confident, and very happy to be back at the races. When the results were posted I was surprised to see how good I actually ended up. It was nice to see how proud my dad was when he saw that our family name would be on a trophy that means so much to our racing community. All in all it was a very good event and I had a great time.
'Til next time,
Chris “skippy” Gallt

Valley Trail Riders hare scramble - Jordan

On July 8th our series went back to Bentley, MI. At the start I took the holeshot, and led for more than halfway through the three hour race and after that I started to slack off and turn it down. I fell a few times and I noticed a C class rider pass me and I got going and gassed, and started to ride harder and with two laps to go I passed the leader and by the end of the race I put 4 minutes on the 2nd place rider. I ended up 11th overall.

Muskegon Hare Scramble race report - Jordan

In the District 14 series, we got to go back to Muskegon to race. They have not had a hare scramble there since 1999. At the starting line there was only 2 of us in our class, so in the start the two of us were close on the motocross track, once we got into the woods I was able to pull away from him. After a section of woods there was a hill that many people had trouble on. When I got to it this hill I made I up clean, at the top I met up with my dad who started ahead of me. We raced for a while the he let me go. With about a ½ hour to go I was feeling a little tired and then my dad caught and passed me back and beat back to the finish. At the end of the race I got 13th overall and 1st in my class.

Snowshoe GNCC race report - Jordan

We arrived at the track around 4:00pm on Saturday, checked in to our hotel, did a little walking around, watched a few people ride unicycles, ate, and went to bed. The sound of the announcer’s voice booming through the speakers woke me up at 8:00 in the morning. Signup was right below our room and I think the speaker was pointed at our window. For the G.P. Style start I drew row number 59. When our row left the line, I think I was close to last out of the five riders on the row. At the beginning of the race at the top of the mountain it was somewhat dry and dusty. During the mini race I only watched on top of the mountain and when we got in the woods I was not expecting the mud. I myself am not a mud rider. So this race would have been tough without the mud, but with the mud it made it tons tougher. When I hit the woods there were already very deep ruts. By the 2nd lap they were extremely deep. I think every mud hole I went through, once I made it through my bike would overheat. At the end of the race I ended up 12th place.
